A recent study has uncovered a new unexpected side effect of deforestation. Scientists have found that deforestation is triggering an outbreak of malaria in Brazil. 
According to a recent study published in the journal Emerging Infectious Disease:
A 4.2% change in deforestation yielded a 48% increase in malaria incidence.
